Daisy maisy has a sore foot

HI, when my husband was carrying daisy maisy like a wee baby he noticed she had a red patch on her hind foot about half a centimetre with no fur to this area. Does anyone know what could cause this and how to treat it?? Many thanks jacquie

Sounds like the start of sore hocks. What sort of rabbit is she?

daisy maisy is a mini lop, she is one year old and lives on her own. she seems to prefer this as she bit stephanie's ear and tormented her. she is a very OCD bunny and her hutch is always perfectly tidy. what is sore hocks???

sore hocks

thank u so much for info. on sore hocks feel as if i am a bad bunny mummy not even knowing what this was. i have redid her hutch with thick layers of wood shavings then a piece of material then some soft wooly bedding as well as meadow hay (she usually has wood shavings and hay). Do i need to take her to the vet if it is just red and there is no broken skin? Her other back foot also has slight red area under fine layer of fur. I also didn't put her out on the grass today and instead brought her in to play on the rug inside. daisy maisy also thumps a lot unlike my other bunnies - could that cause red areas? she is a mini lop but has much finer fur than the others.

You could use Sudocrem :) Just apply a thin layer twice daily, the redness should start to go xXx

daisy maisy

thanks for that will go and put some on just now. does the bedding sound ok? Should i limit her going on grass? she can run on the deck instead or inside.
thanks again Jacquie

I dont think the grass will hurt her :) Its probably the wood shavings that have caused it as they can sometimes be a little sharp. Bedding her on a thick layer of hay is the best thing :)

It should go down quite quickly with sudocrem, if you do notice any infection or bleeding, pop her down to the vets to be on the safe side :) xXx
