Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Wound on back...

FudgeMallow

Mama Doe
I noticed Last night that leo has a biggish, deepish wound on his back.
He isnt living with any other bunnies, i checked his cage and run area and no sharp bits although he did jump out of his cage on sat morning which i think could be the cause.

Now i have given him some metacam and dabbed slightly salted, cooled boiled water on the wound and it does look fine and has scabbed over but i dont have any baytril to stop infections!

Im so worried about him

If i keep an eye on it and clean it with slightly salted water would that be ok? If i see anything odd i will go to the vets immediately, i just dont want to take him there if i dont need to as hes a very nervey bunny and is very shy so want to avoid all stress factors if possible!

Any advice much appreciated

yes, exactly, I was going to say as it happened to Chloe following a set of sub-cutaneous injections recently..

Sounds like injections! Truffles baytril burn has still got a tiny scab round it. She lost about three cm of hair and it all scabbed. As I say, most has gone now and she has been left with dark grey turfty hair which is growing well.:lol:

can he get under his cage or anything, happed to alfie as he managed to get under his hutch and then got stuck. i took him to the vets who said bathing it in salty water would be ok and that he probs. it healed after about a week and was fine :)

Sorry not been on, my laptop cable isnt working so gotta use my mums

Not had any injections or anything, Its looking ok but i wil keep my eye on it!
Im just so confused i have searched high and low to find anything sharp he could have gotten to but ive not found anything!
If it goes red or inflamed i will go to the vets but its healing fine:)
