  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Broke two front teeth

One of my bunnies somehow broke her two top teeth today:cry:. She is drinking water and constantly licking the teeth as they are loose. I was wondering what I should feed her. I can't get her to a vet right now because we are financially strapped at the moment. I'm keeping an eye on her but I'm worried she will refuse pellets. Thanks!

She must be in pain and really does need to see a vet. Perhaps you can discuss payment terms over a period with your vet?

Im afraid she will need to see a vet. My bunny broke a tooth and it snapped off down below the gumline and never regrew. She then developed pus and an abscess from it.

If the teeth are loose, they will need a vet to determine whether they need to come out. She will not be able to eat and that is very dangerous for bunny. She also may need pain relief if she has suffered trauma to the mouth.

I would soften her pellets to see if she can eat them, but I really would get her seen by a vet.

Blackie broke his two top teeth and they grew back in about 4 weeks but the grew back in wrong and he then had to hav his teeth clipped/filed every 4 weeks and eventually it was causing so much stress the best thing to do was remove them and he was much happier after that!

They can manage pellets fine, but if you find your bunny struggling and a splash of cooled boiled water and he/she should manage then
