  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Watery eye

When we let floppy out this morning he seemed fine, now his eye is watering and partially closed like he can't open it fully coz it watering, you no like when we get something in it :( i've tried to wipe it with water when he was eating but kept running off, i've tried to look in it but he's not liking it and i don't want to push him in case i make him worse :( what should i do?

He could have something stuck in it if he won't let you look take him to the vets

I've managed to bathe it now nothing in it from what i can see :( phoned the vets and they said to keep bathing it should he get worse to get him down straight away but otherwise to take him in tomorrow for a check up ;) if anyone else has any idea's please let me know :)

He could have poked it with something and sometimes this can develop into an ulcer which is very painful and will require treatment. The vet should put a dye in to check for ulcers. These can get very nasty so I would get him to a vet asap.
Otherwise, it could be an infection, blocked tear ducts or even a dental problem.
Hope his poorly eye is better soon x
