  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My male lionhead is 5 and keeps getting very sore underneath. He is starting to stand very high on his toes and is not comfortable when urinating - he is also at times having trouble controlling this. The vet has done a test and says he has crystals(calcium). I have placed him on the lowest calcium food and veggies + oxbow timothy hay. Tomorrow, he is going to have xrays to see if it is just sludge which they can hopefully flush out or stones which they will have to remove. Has anyone had this senario before? How successful is it? And any thoughts considering his age? Thanks

I have a nethie boar who was leaking pee and sore underneath , he was given baytril and i washed ,dried and put sudocrem on his bum and he is back to normal . My vet did say he might have needed xrays to check it wasn't a stone or it could be EC . I lost my guinea pig who went in for bladder op because he was in a lot of pain peeing , turned out to be sludge and could have been treated without an op ;) . Hope you get him sorted , he is older but you dont have much choice he will need something done to sort it ;)

Your Bun may need his bladder flushed out under GA.
He should definately be receiving analgesia as he will be in pain
Did the Vet rule out a secondary bacterial infection?
Has an abdominal Xray/Ultrasound been done to see if there is also stones in his Kidneys?
Has Bun now got urine scalded skin?
As he is incontinent are you taking extra precautions re Flystrike prevention?
