  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I lost my boy today at only 15 month old !!! he was fine last night in his hutch with his mate archie . He was a house rabbit and when i went to feed them today i noticed that hector my boy did not seem his kean self to hurry to his feed bowl ? I arranged to take him to the vet at 930 this morn . When i toke him he was on his feet , the vet found his cheast to be very rubbly and did not hear much gut movment . She explained to me that he would need some jags but they drugs where not licenced for rabbits but she recomened em and asked me to sign a form , so i did ! After getting him home about 1 hr after his jags his back legs seem to stop workin and as the day went on it travled up his back till he could not even hold his head up durin this time i syringed rabbit recovery food into his mouth and i think he did take some . By around 430 he was totally on his side and i think the pain killers may have been startin to lack off . I had to take him back to vet and he never come home . SO GUTTED love him so much .

Can any1 tell me if these drugs have any side affects that could explain why he lost power of his body ?

0.20mls bisolvon
0.60mls baytril
0.30mls metoclop
0.10mls meloxicam

I am sorry for your loss

All the drugs you have listed are commonly used for Rabbits.
Baytril is an antibiotic
Bisolvon is a mucolytic (thins out mucus)
Metoclopromide is a gut motility stimulant
Meloxicam is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory.

I suspect your Bun may have had an acute pneumonia and 'going off his legs' happened because he just became too poorly and weak to stand.
There are other conditions which can effect the central nervous system but your Vets findings appear to suggest an acute Respiratory Tract infection.

I would get your Vet to check Archie over tomorrow just to be on the safe side.
