Quarantine

I don't personally do it as the ones we take on, like yours Liz, well, we don't know how long we are going to have them and we want them to have a happy life, for however long:love::love:

I introduce buns that have come from rescues more or less right away as you know that the rescues have done a lot of the work anyway, vaccs etc.

For buns that have come from private places or emergency ones we keep to one room - and then do the vaccs, panacur etc - but I just can't let them be left alone - I take as many precautions as I can but I want them to feel loved, and to see, smell and hear the other buns - it really gives them a boost as they know that the buns are safe and it helps them to settle and feel safe:love:

I know a lot of people won't agree with me, but it's the way we've always done things - they need to feel that peace and the love surrounding them, and who better than buns who have been through a lot of hell be the ones to help them?

Thanks Jay, I must admit I agree with you :)

Most of ours come through rescue so we don't need to quarantine. Those that are private I attempt to keep seperate for a couple of weeks, except with Edith, I knew she didn't have long left when she arrived so only left her in her cage for a day to recover from her journey and then let her have the run of the house

I have had Stanley completely seperate for a week now and he looks so miserable :( He appears to have some neurological problems and need some cuddles. He has been vet checked and myxi'd so I would like to be able to interact with him a bit more.

The bunny arriving today is also in a real mess and will need lots of TLC so it would be easier to have him in the house with the rest of the bunnies. He is being vet checked in the morning :?

i think that jaypots reasoning is right provided there isnt a huge risk to the other rabbits( i e not an obvious illness there such as myxi or snuffles which could be passed on then it is down to the actual rabbit in question. i think that th majority or rabbits should be kept seperate 1-2weeks so any illness or pregnancy etc can start to show also it gives a chance for tehm to settle in before being overwhelmed with new surroundings. however i think there are exceptions to this rule and you have to judge them as best you can. majority of the rabbits you care for will not live a long time or will need specialist care therefore if you dont think stanly will pose a huge risk(and it sounds doubtful he would) then i would put him in the house with the others where you can give him more attention which he obviously needs. i think it really is a judgement call. x

Depends what you mean by quarantine really...I don't bother if I know the rabbit has been in rescue or with a trusted person previously. Otherwise I keep any newcomers from mixing with other rabbits or sharing exercise space for at least a couple of weeks.
