  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Ringworm

Have had my new baby rabbit for 3 weeks and the vet seems to think she has a ringworm infection. Noted a small area of hair loss at her eye yesterday. I can't believe it. Our previous rabbit had yrs worth of dental probs and I can't believe things have started again already!! Not only that, but it is infectious to humans so I probably will get it too as I have been handling her constantly since we got her!!! I am away outside with the marigolds on to disinfect the spare hutch!!

Unfortunately ringworm is one of those things. I presume the vet has given you the appropriate treatment etc?

Yes, you may contract it so keep an eye out for any skin patches etc. I think the animal is at it's most infectious before the 'dry patches' appear. You would be as well as buying disposable gloves and aprons that you can use whilst treating the bun.

Don't panic and don't feel jinxed. It will sort itself and all will be well, so keep smiling and don't get downhearted :) x

Hi i am from Scotland  . Ringworm can be easily treated its only a fungal problem ;) , you just have to keep up with the treatment and dont give up till its gone . What symptoms does your rabbit have ?
