Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Changing diet to just hay and veg (advice needed)

Hi. We've had our rabbits on hay, pellets mixed in dobby musuli mix food and sometimes a little veg. However i am starting to think that maybe i should start to get them onto just hay and veg. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how i should go about doing it. Or should i keep to what i have been as they are used to it now?

I'd start by cutting out the Muesli Mix.
Are you certain they all eat lots of hay ? If they are only picking at hay it will take a long time to get them to eat enough. If they usually fill up on pellets/mix they may already have some dental issues going on. A Vet check of teeth would be a good idea before you start withdrawing foods.
I would introduce Veg daily as if you are also going to be taking them off pellet feed too then they must have a good variety of Veg every day.
They will need a variety of different hays too. You'll find an excellent selection here

If they are House Rabbits and have little or no access to natural sunlight then a Hay Veg only diet is not suitable. They will require the Pellet feed to ensure they obtain sufficient Vitamins.

Any change in diet needs to be done very slowly. Careful monitoring of each Buns weight and poo output is essential.

:)
