Giving baytril orally

bridget

Alpha Buck
Hi

I've just taken Kirk to a new vet as my usual one wasn't open today. In fact I've registered him at this new one now as they seem a lot me clued up about buns.

Kirk had a snotty nose. I've got baytril to give him orally twice a day but Kirk HATES being handled and I don't want to stress him out. How do I feed him the baytril. Even if I get hold of him, I doubt I will get a syringe near his mouth..

i had the same problem when i had to give it to willow-he was not impressed.

try adding it to his favourite treat, i used raspberry leaves and made a kind of leaf sandwich, then gave it to him with a handful of non baytril leaves and he just ate them all.

i think some people put it into a slice of apple and give it that way

good luck hope kirk is feeling better soon

i soak baytril in a tiny piece of brown bread... works really well :D

Ooh that's a good idea. My little Kirk does like a bit of bread every now and again :)

He is sitting in the garden looking mardy... aww poor little pumpkin ;)

Success! He took it with a syringe. He's in a grump now though poor baby boo.

Is baytril good for getting rid of his snotty nose? I do worry about him

My rabbit has just finished a course of baytril for a very slight snotty nose and he seems much better, he had his on small piece of bread also :)

I have to wrap mine in a towel like a "bunny burrito" in order for them to take Baytril. Someone told me it's liver flavoured  yeugh!

mine takes some small pills or parts of it, hidden in a currant, as she is crazy about them, she does not notice

i make a spring green "sandwich" - have you also tried disguising it in a dandilion or other food too?

good luck and glad you managed to syringe feed.
