  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Baytril dosage??

you have to ask your vet because there are 2 dosages in Baytril, and it is according to your rabbit weight..

Today Willow has a snotty nose :(

I took Simon to the vets last week because he was sneezing and has a snotty nose. He was prescribed baytril and Bisolvon.

Obviously it's a bank holiday weekend, I don't think it warrants a visit to the emergency vets. I'll be ringing the vets first thing on Tuesday to get her seen but as I have the meds here for Simon, and I'm sure the vet will prescribe the same for Willow as it's the same problem... I wanted to get her started on them as soon as possible.

I just don't know what dose she'd need :?

My Vet prescibes Oral Baytril at a dose rate of 10mg/kg/12 hours.
But as its a POM it is only a qualified Vet who can advise you as to the dose to give your Rabbit...........................

If you ring the emergency vet and explain te situation they may give you a dose over the phone. I have done that before, worth a try :)

I've realised that Simon weighs twice as much as Willow so with the dose being based on weight I should be ok to just halve it

I don't think it always works that way :? Why not ring the vet as I suggested it wont cost you anything and the worse that can happen is they say no :)

If you give antibiotics now you will prevent an accurate culture and sensitivity test being carried out so it is best to speak to your vet first.
