  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

As far as I know, Zantac is a human med given to prevent heartburn - indigestion by stopping the production of stomach acid.
Bunny's digestive systems are different to ours, so personally I would not suggest this is good idea.
If your bun is having trouble eating it would be better to find out the reason.
It could be stasis, where a bun stops eating because its gut has closed down. This is serious and needs a vet intervention.
If your rabbit is eating but not well, it could be a sign of dental problems.
Whatever reason, I would suggest a vet visit to identify problem, and get a proper course of action.

This is a med given to me for my dog , the vet was going to give me some for the rabbit before they closed so it can be given i just dont know how much ;)

Zantac can be given to Rabbits but it is a presciption only medication and should only be administered when prescribed by the Vet who has examined the Rabbit.

Did this Vet examin your Rabbit and do you know why the Rabbit is anorexic?

Vet has seen him and was going to give me some zantac to try because he is still having trouble eating after a dental and xrays to rule out teeth probs
