Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Syring feeding - how much?

~ Cat ~

Wise Old Thumper
Hi folks.

Been told to syringe feed Lola with some luke warm water or some mashed up food/dandelions.

I have made some "dandelion tea" and will syringe feed her the tea but how much per hour should I be aiming to get into her?

Should I concentrate on just fluids for now or try some mashed up pellets?

Sorry to be asking this but this is all new to me.

Thank you so much x

10-20ml/hour would be OK for an average (2kg) Bunny. Larger Rabbits would need more.

Did she have pain relief?

I dont know - the vet was Swedish so a bit of a language barrier, but I know she had three injections. She is back tomorrow at 10.30am.

Please, please
call the Vets back to make sure pain relief was given. This is absolutely essential in ALL cases of GI stasis. Pain has a direct physiological effect on a Rabbit and pain alone can send them into shock  A Rabbit in pain wont eat

Every 1Kg of bunny weight, get 100 ml of food inside him per 24 hr. just spread out the food every so many hr. will be fine
