Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Mom and Baby Bunnies - Urgent

I need some help. My son (24) recently adopted a rescue rabbit and thought she was pregnant before he got her. She had 7 babies over the night but is not pulling fur to make a nest.

I told him to get a soft blanket and put it in a nest box to put the babies in - something that the mother could get in and out easily but the babies could not fall out of. I also told him to check for any deceased babies and remove them from the nest.

My question - if she is not pulling her fur out, should he cut some fur from her to put in the nest? I've had a couple of litters myself, but the mom has always prepared her nest appropriately.

Also, do they start nursing after a couple of days or immediately?

Please help!

Thanks,

Brigitte

Someone more helpful will be along soon all I know is they normally feed them late at night once a day so maybe she has already fed them ?

Thanks for your reply - she had seven babies and so far all have survived - mom has pulled out a little bit of fur so I just told my son to clip some hair from her and cover the babies with it.
