  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Urgent advice please. Update.

Moo has stopped eating today.

I have booked her in to see the vet in the morning.

I have syringe fed her some liquidised food, given tummy rubs, chased her around.

have given probiotics and now want to give her metacam but cannot remember how much she needs.
she weighs 1.5kgs.

she seems brighter than she did earlier and she is lying quite chilled out in her hutch.

just to add, she was eating fine this morning, she has just refused all veg tonight.

There are quite a lot of normal big round dry poos in the litter box but i don't know whether they are from tonight or earlier this morning.

remove all poos to see if there is any new poo.

Is there bloat at the stomach? If so, it's very dangerous. If there is bloat, you have to see a rabbit specialist to suck the gas out of it via a tube. For the time being, you can use 2 ml of infacol every few hr.

If there is no bloat, then you could be dealing w/ a simple GI stasis. And here's what you need to know on GI stasis:

How is your bun now? Any better?

I agree with the others, please get her to the vets asap. Not eating is very serious in buns.

Moo hasn't seen the vet yet,we are going in half an hour.

decided not to take her this morning because after force feeding her every two hours over night and rubbing her tummy and chasing her round the room and giving metacam and probiotic i got her eating again at 2am.

There were no poos from five pm yesterday until I came home at lunch timre today and there was a nice pile of normal big round poo:D

she has eaten loads of veg since but no hay that i have observed but knowing her she is eating that when I am not looking.

she was well enough to be left to see vet tonight rather than an emergency case this morning.

I'll give her more metacam later and i'm only going to vets to pinch some metaclopramide and to get a quick look at her back teeth

Been to vets and teeth absolutely fine and vet agreed with me that not dental issue and most likely bit of bloat although her stomach not swollen or hard.

she had a metaclopramide injection and when i got her home I gave her some more metacam.

I have moved her indoors permanently now as I want her to have the run of a whole room rather than just a hutch and run....this is better for her to help her keep more active when she gets belly ache.

she has eaten loads of veg and small amount of supa rabbit, just waiting to catch her eating hay as this is normally all she eats apart from veg.

she seems happy enough and has only been grinding her teeth a tiny bit tonight.
