  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I noticed on Rubens chin, underneath, that there is some hair missing, like its been worn. There is also hair that looks like its been wet then dried and gone crispy?!

Im worried because his sister had abcess, and Ive heard wet chins can mean dental probs....BUT his chin isnt wet, but you can tell it gets wet then dries.

I think its from him cleaning himself and wearing and wetting his chin underneath as he licks himself? what do you guys think? am i just being paranoid?

I would get his teeth checked to be safe

Rabbits have a scent gland under their chin and sometimes the area can look 'sticky'.
But I would still get your Vet to check Ruben's teeth :)

I am 99% sure it's teeth problem. Either molar, or abnormal teeth growing at an angle, or some other teeth is screwing up from the inside.

yes he has a bowl for water...mum said that she had a buck that used to rub his chin on things all the time, and thinks hes doing that too :?

just been to vet, she thinks its his scent gland...

but the spurs arent getting better so will be booking him in to file them down :?
