  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

the abcess site and gum have healed over suddenly

:( weve discovered that caspers gums where they removed his teeth at the front to even it up and treat the root abscess has healed over. there was still some pus coming out of it too before it healed over.

is it normal for gums to heal that fast and does it mean that the pus is building back up underneath?

hes on oral antibiotcs..baytril and flagyl....twice a day...but im nearly out..time for a refill...if she says he doesnt need it ill be asking for a second opinion no matter how good she is with buns...
sorry ive got pmt and feeling a bit sad right now...casper..then salem and tonight bifs going into stasis...again....i cant win:(

I would get the Vet to take a look at Casper again. Generally its not good for the cavity to heal over if pus is still present.
Do you know if there was any infection in the bone (osteomyelitis) ?

As far as the xrays showed jane it was surrounded by calcified tissue but not into the jawbone itself.
the amount of pus wwas getitng les and less and there had only been a teeny amont each time but i guess maybe its where the healing was taking place?

im seeing her with my bif for her jab and gi probs again and berties eye check up..mums buns jab and i will ask her then and see when we can fit him in if we can do anything without putting him under again so soon as his heart stopped on the table and it was touch and go.

she couldnt do what she wanted re the antibiotics gels etc and flushwith them too as hed had to be saved first.....he had a choice die or survive withouth the flush propelry..which is sad because we know itll never be gone now:(
