has anyone ever had a rabbit with an abcess in the hock before?

Or a rabbit with slipping ligaments?

Yes, I have.

It was only one hind leg that was effected and after several unsuccessful attempts at getting the abscess under control hind leg amputation took place.
Sadly the infection had spread into the tendons, and up through the femur into the hip :cry: I had to let her go :cry:

If both legs are effected then really it is going to be a case of managing the chronic problem. This may well include the use of longterm antibiotics and analgesia. Dressings may be required on the hind legs.

I am sorry that Peanut is effected by this nasty condition :cry:

at the moment its one leg but she said if she amputates the chances are it will start the other one off as its already a sore hock :cry: :cry:

the specialist might disagree and want to do it, but i doubt it. I know lots of people lose bunnies younger than peanut but...hes three, hes so young :cry: :cry:. and in every other way hes such a happy bunny, it upsets me so much.
