  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

What do I need to ask?

Hi ya
Just brought my bunny home tonight, Rebel, he's lovely (but I'm biased lol), so calm and just potters about and does this cute teddy bear pose
He is 6months old and I have a recommendation for a vet, and I know that I need a -Myxomatosis and a -VHD injection, plus i'll be getting him neutered (had to have a debate with my boyfriend on how its actually better for the bunny lol)
But is there any thing I should ask the vet to check or anything at all I should be making sure I'm doing.
I know its probably simply a case of booking him in and the vet will know what to do, but I like to be prepared, and I'd like him to live a very long time, so i'm doing the whole bunny mam thing :D

Thanks
Tam

I think you know everything already by the sounds of it :) The injections are the main thing :) The vet should give your bunny a good health check before he gives him his first injection, this will be myxi :) The VHD will then be 2 weeks after (but i guess you already know this)

The vet should check his teeth also :) xXx

100% get him neutered, he and you will have a better life, and you could get him a wife bun in the future.

Some of the questions you need to ask the vet are how many buns do you neuter a week, and how many have you lost?. I called one and they said about 2 a month, called the one we are with (and always will be) and they said about 5 a week with no problems!.

I just wanted to add that it really, really helps having a bunny savvy vet and unfortunatley not all vets are.
