Would a rescue

Jazzy B Bunny

Wise Old Thumper
Rehome a single bun to live outside if he/gets plenty of attention. I'm not sure yet, but after losing eclipse yesterday I can't cope with seeing an empty hutch so amthinking in the future I might adopt a rescue bun :)

Would depend on the bun
we would rehome a bun who has shown rabbit-aggression..or a hard to homer..as a solo but would need a lot of human interaction and a very stimulating eviroment in which to live..lots of space and toys etc.

We have two bunnies who may fit the bill..one a male..and one a doe..
pm for more details:D

That would be a wonderful thing to do. I know our local rspca sometimes have bunnies who want a home on their own - I'm sure it just depends on the bunny. Was so sorry to hear about the beautiful Eclipse.

With eclipse, he had lots of toys a 5ftx3x3 hutch, sperate 7ft run and 2 hours free range every night. I also spent lots of time outside with him. Would that be ok?

I suspect rescues would want the run to be attached, especially for a single, to keep the bunny occupied.

I'm so sorry for your loss :(

would the male be Bing by any chance?

In that case I will not be able to offer a rescue bun a home  I don't have the space for an attached run.

All rescues have their own requirements though, you could try contacting a few. Or what about fostering? Maybe your set up would be given the go ahead for short term stays? It sounds like you have plenty of time to give the bun!

Or as an alternative your hutch would be a great size for a pair or trio of guinea pigs!

OMG course they would there are always buns that cant go with other buns needing a very special home!
When we were getting a friend for winnie there was this gorgeous black girl who was terrified of rabbits? So would she have to stay at the rescue for ever cause she cant be paired of course she wouldn't and didn't she is now happyily re-homed!
Good luck let us know how you get on!

Of course some do :) It depends on what rescues they have in when you ask.

My local rescue centre currently has 8 or so 'singles' - because of behavioural or agrression-related issues which means they haven't been able to bond them with another bunny over the space of many months that they've been there so they are prepared to let them go as single-rabbits providing that the new owner has enough time/facilities to keep them company.

The only thing they normally check is that you are an experienced rabbit owner, since because the behaviour/agression that makes them a single rabbit in the first place, it usually makes them a difficult rabbit to handle, not at all for beginners  However there are some who are perfectly lovely rabbits, who just don't like other rabbits and prefer people

It is always, always worth calling them or making enquiries! The worst they can do is say 'No' right?

I ditto the fostering! If you have lots of time but not necessarily the space then fostering sounds ideal. You get to assess the personality of the rabbit, bring it back to health (if necessary) and socialise it with humans. You would be doing an awesome job for lots of bunnies so that they can have their forever-home with someone who has the space but not necessarily the time.

I am trying to persuade hubby to do it but he won't let me, we don't have enough space for more forever bunnies...

I am sorry for your loss, strength and hugs to you

We rehomed Chrissie as a single outdoor bunny. She now lives with March Hare and has a lot of other bunnies around her. She can see and smell them, and she gets a lot of attention. We tried to bond her with 4 different boys, and she was very aggressive to all of them. She is very friendly with humans, but does not like other bunnies. So we made an exception for her. :)

Do you know what their policy on guinnea pigs is?

To be perfectly honest I would move the hutch out of the way for now. I don't think you should rush into getting another bun until you've had a little time to recover from losing eclipse :?

I don't think I could foster, I wasn't thinking of getting another right away. Just bought a rose bush to plant eclipses ashes under when I get them back

Perhaps you should consider a pair of guinea pigs!

I had never seen their appeal until my sister got two from a rescue. They are the most endearing little things! If I didn't have so many rabbits I'd definitely have a couple of piggies :)
