Bonding a trio

What do you think the chances are of successfully bonding a pair(male & female neutered) with a neutered male? Or is it more successful to bond them with a neutered female?
 
If I had a pair I would choose to get a female to add to them. However if you already have them they are worth a try. Both the trios I have done this weekend have been 2 females with a male.
