My 2 boy bunnys

Bunnyx

Warren Scout
Hi I new to this but I have been reading threads on here
about bonding boy rabbits together!
Well I have a 12 month old un-neutered male
and a 12 week old un-uneutered male!
I would love to get both neutered, the only
reason I havent had my 12 month male done yet
is because my last female rabbit I had went to
be spayed and died before they even attempted
surgery on her apparantly due to the anesthetic:(:(
So now I am worried to get my 2 I have ow done
however I have moved vets since then!
I was just wodering has anyone ever had a rabbit
die due to this? And do you think I should go ahead
and get my 12 month male done ( if all went well
I would get my 12 week old done aswell)
Well my 12 week old is going for his jabs next week
so I was going to ask the vet about getting my other
male done. At the moment they are next to each other
in separate runs and seem to be fine however the older
one was getting a bit firsky earlier:S lol
Anyway any advice would be appriciated:D

I would get them both done especially if you're going to bond them.:) otherwise hormones may get in the way

Hi there.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. This is a common problem with people worrying about anesthetics. It's not common however for bunnies to die under anesthetic, but it does happen. It is less likely obviously if you go to a vet that does spays and neuters as routine and knows what to expect.

You do need to get both boys done, regardless of whether you are going to bond them as they will in due course become aggressive and will also spray like mad in order to mark their territory. This in itself will become a big problem for the other rabbit - causing more aggression.

You may be able to bond the boys following a neuter (allowing the hormones to settle first), however bonding two no-sibling males is much harder and less likely to work than a mixed pair. It is possible though.

I'd ask a new vet how many rabbit procedures they carry out daily - ours for example may do between 4-6 on a normal op day. He will know exactly what to do when things don't look as good as they might. A good bunny vet may not do that many but you'd want them to see the vet doing several a week at least I'd think.

Ok thanks guys
Yes I think I will get them both done
ive just had 2 bath cookie the 12 week old
as pepsi the older one has just sprayed wee all
over him:S its very strong smelling he is now
going mad spinning in circles:S
its not too late 2 get him done is it I meen
health wise? as he is now 12 months
Pepsi is very freindly towards him and I think they
would be a good match when they are both done
Pepsi is just hormone MAD at the moment lol
But my original plan was just to hopefully
be able to let them hop around the garden together
happily and put them side by side in thier runs
I will have to see how they are when they are done
What age should I get cookie my 12 week old done
I think he is too young at the moment?

Yes the last time I saw my vet he said
they neuter about 2-3 rabbits a week
so I am quite confident

12 months isn't too old at all for a neuter, however as the hormones are already active, you might need to give him a good few weeks (maybe 4 or so) for them to subside completely before you start any bonding.

As bunnies can live to anything between 8-12 years, a one year old is considered to be quite young.

Good luck.
