  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Boney bunny bum?

My Penny 'Pocket' is a very healthy weight and has a good appetite with a nice squidgy tummy but her bottom feels very boney? Not sure whether this is a cause for concern or I'm being paranoid - but it is noticeable. Can anyone advise?

How old is she ?
Is she less active than normal and if litter tray trained does she still use it OK?
Is she drinking and weeing more than normal ?

Yes and yes, all is normal. Uses the litter tray, and eating and weeing normally. This is the bun who starts to build nests even though she is spayed x

Can you post some pics of her ?

One taken from behind and one taken looking down on her back and one taken sideview.

Has she always nested ?
How long ago was her spay ?

How active is she? Has she always been bony?

I just ask as one of my buns was really bony when she came to us. She had been kept in a TINY cage and hadn't really developed any muscles. The vet said she was OK and being more active would help to gradually build her up. She's a lot less bony now. In fact she managed her first binky at the weekend!
