  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Any experts out there who can help?

Hi everyone

I wonder if anyone can suggest what may help my little Tilly's snuffliness (see website below). She is still sneezing and has one 'milky' eye after her myxi, but is otherwise fine and absolutely perky (she is no worse than before). However it must be very irritating/tiring for her - especially when she has a sneezing fit. I know my (very helpful) vets have said that it is almost certainly due to permanent damage to her air passages, internal membranes, etc. but I was wondering if I can offer her relief in any way?

Thanks. :)

Has the Vet attempted to flush the nasolacrimal duct or does Vet think it is scar tissue blocking it rather than a plug of pus ?

I have seen good results from using Tiacil as a nasal drop in some snuffly Buns.
Tiacil is actually an antibiotic eye drop and aswell as an antibiotic it contains an anti-inflammatory. Using a topical anti-inflammatory may be helpful.

If your Vet is not happy about prescribing Tiacil for this purpose you could try using Paediatric Saline Nasal Drops. You can buy these in most pharmacies

Thank you for that. The vet seems to think that it is the tissude damage (i.e. I presume scar tissue) which is causing the problem. I will look into both of your suggestions - is it definitely ok to use the children's nose drops on bunnies? :)
