  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Another trip to the vets is needed....GRRRRR

GRRRR...think I am going to have to take Bean and Truffle to the vets again tomorrow. Truffle has been sneezing all day and her nose is covered with white pus type stuff. She also wipes her nose and gets it covered on her paws!!! I specifically asked the vets about it last week but she said don't worry...a lot of rabbits sometimes sneeze!!! I have changed vets too! I thought it would be best to put her on some anti biotics but nothing was given. Going to try and get them in tomorrow. Just want her to be all good!

Do you rekon this could be allergies...Bean had exactly the same problem when he was a baby! She is eating and drinking completely well! Flopped out as per normal. Just need to check on her poos!!!

sounds like snuffles to me as my bunny was th same get rabbit to vets asap as it can kill them if pnemonia sets in, keep bunny warm and u could give her some warm organic camomile tea in a bowl add liquid or powder multi vitimins on food daily. snuffles requires baytril antibiotics and normally clears up then comes back as a relap and bunny may develope dust, hay and straw allergies afterwards like my rabbit tinkerbell did. hope this helps x

If the mucus is white then I doubt its an allergy. It sounds like Snuffles to me.
If Beany has had an episode of it in the past then Truffle may well have caught it from him even though he is asymptomatic. His immune system may well keep on top of the symptoms now. The bacteria often involved with cases of Snuffles (Pasteurella) is seldom fully eradicated. Hence and asymptomatic Rabbit can still infect another Rabbit and that Rabbit may well go on to develope clinical symptoms. Relapses often occur at times of stress
Hopefully a course of abx will resolve Truffle's symptoms :)

Hi, It sounds like snuffles to me to, as dandilion and i have spent a lot of time with the vet trying to resolve the proplem of the sneezing and the white snot-(pasterella) I read about it on the internet to start with and got soo stressed thinking she was going to die of phnumoneia, (extreme thoughts i know) however - if its kept controlled with antibiotics,( not too often tho as they become immune to them) and general check ups she could live a good long life-:p we tried removing certain things from her house and tried different bedding hoping it would be allergies, but the snuffles came back, beany will be just fine with a lot of love and attention, its just stressful to know that they cant breathe all the time through that nosteral.(its a horrid feeling when we have snotty noses) My vet has offered a flush where he'll flush the tear and nose duct- this is the next thing we shall do if the sneezing and snottys returns bad! hayho! ill do anything to help her:love::love::love::love: all the best

Well trip to the vets tomorrow then...I am a bit hacked off that I brought this whole problem up last week though and Truffle even sneezed at the vets...they could have given me something then. I also told the new vets about Beans problem with sneezing and how our old vet gave him some antibiotics.:shock:
