Hi guys,

My friend has just got herself a boy rabbit who is about 5 1/2 months old. She called me today to tell me that he was pooing out of mouth this morning. I've never had that problem with any of my 3 buns and just wondered what it is? I searched it on the internet and it said that it's down to diet change. She's had him now for 2 weeks. I am going over to hers tomorrow to check out her set up and check the food he's getting etc.

Just wondered if anyone can give me any other details on this??

I suspect he was eating a caecotroph. This is the soft poo that a Bun eats directly from their bum. It is a normal part of the Rabbit digestive process :)

pooing out of his mouth

thats what I thought at first but it's continuous and stringy and my lot all eat their soft poo which i know is normal and this doesn't sound the same. Really strange?

Very odd. I agree with small brown frog, if its not just eating ceacotrophs that your friend has seen, then something sounds very amiss. Straight to the vets I would!

I once saw one of my buns go for a caecotroph then it sort of dropped out of her mouth on to the mat into a sloppy heap (nice! ) She then ate it up again, but it could have been described as pooing out of her mouth, I guess.

This thread is turning my stomach!:lol:

Stitch used to eat his normal poops too and as he munched down on them he had crumbs falling out the sides of his mouth :lol:

Sorry not much help but thought it was sick and funny. The bun you are posting about though doesn't sound normal if it's stringy. I'd maybe advise your friend to take a bit and make sure it is actually poo.

I have no idea what else it could be though :?

we have another thread like this just 2 wk. ago, in that thread, we have members' bunnies who is eating poos, including mine.
