Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Male Rabbit puling out fur

New Kit
Hi,

I have a 4 month old Male mini lop that's just been castrated about a month ago. The poor thing had quite a time of it and has spent the last month wearing a collar and going back and forth to the vet for treatment. He's finally been given the all clear and the collar has been removed. He's now decided to pull out practically all his fur, the poor thing is practically bald from the head down!

He's been to the vet who can't find any trace of fleas /mites and thinks it could be due to a bacterial infection or possibly pschyological reaction to his recent trauma. In any case I'm a little concerned, he's also getting through about 250ml of water daily which the vet thinks is a little high (or could just be due to the mouth full of fur he has)

The vet has given some antibiotics and flea/mite treatment just in case but wsa wondering whether this has been seen before by anyone?
