Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Runts of the litter?

I think Joey may have been the runt out of his litter, will this effect his health?? I'm just going by my knowledge of dogs here b/cus I've heard runts normally have health issues.

we kept the runt of our litter ,moley she still seems quite tiny and was so small compared to the others, shes doing really well and into mischeif, her last check up was really wwell, shes only3 months now ,but love her

I had a dog who was the runt of the litter. Nobody wanted him. He was the last to be sold.

He lived to the ripe old age of 15 and was a wonderful, beautiful boy. A few minor health problems - skin allergies/ear problems but that was all.

I'm sure the same goes for some buns. Everyone deserves a chance. It's the luck of the game a lot of the time.

The runt isn't always unhealthy, its just the smallest of its litter.
Rufus was in some ways the runt at one point (true there were a lot of babies smaller than him but they died because mom didn't have enough milk for them:cry:) Rufus grew up fine though, and within 8 weeks he was suddenly the biggest:lol:

I agree - We nearly lost Connie but she pulled through and is as happy and healthy as her brother and sisters, although still slightly smaller, and she was neutered with them yesterday and has come through fine - no probs! :D

If Barley is truely a french lop then she is defo the runt as she is so small. She had a muscle wastage when I got her and also has problems with cystitis but, touch a very large piece of wood, she seems healthy in every other way.
