  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Can rabbits pull out their hair from boredom?

I noticed a bald patch on Scooch the fur has been ripped clean and there is a cut on him. At first I thought ooh no mites, but then the other animals would have mites too b/cus I use the same hay with all of them, but it's a cut not red spots (which I noticed on Toby had when he caught mites a few months ago) so I think he's bored and has did this to himself I feel awful :(:( I'm going to buy him more toys today when I'm out any advice on what to buy? I gave him a cardboard box last night and put some hay in it, hid a some of his treats under his hay, and am taking him out for a loonnnnngggg day out running about the house (longer than usual). But would like to know what toys are particularily interesting to rabbits.

they love throwing things :) so anything like toy carrots and stuff they like to throw.
my bun loves cardboard tubes (from inside tissue roll) good idea is to put treats inside and stuff the ens with hay. they have to pull out the hay and throw the tube around to get it all out. Plus they like munching their way through the hay :)

a puzzle ball may be a good idea too. Put his food in and he has to roll it around to get the treats out..this way he has to work for his food and think about how to get it out. Could also hang his fave veg up on string from the roof of his cage. Takes a while for them to eat it coz it swings round out of reach lol.
