Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. treatment for eye ulcer

lilbun

Warren Veteran
Hi. My two year old bunny had a sore eye yesterday. The vet has disgnosed an eye ulcer and put him on fucithalmic drops. I'm wondering whether he should have metacam for the pain: the vet didn't mention it but I already have some. will this slow the healing? Also I'm concerned because he hates the drops and washes his eyes as soon as I put them in. Will this stop them working? Thanks

He now hates me  he's usually such a licky bunny too!
His ladybun has taken to sitting on his head to try to stop me putting the drops in

I think i'm forgiven! He's just given me kisses

His poorly eye still looks really sore though :(

Poor chap

If you dont see any improvement at all after 2-3 days on Fucithalmic then he may need a different eye treatment. Hopefully that wont be necessary though :)

Thanks so much.

Don't worry, if he's not better in a few days i'll take him to a specialist. I've read some horror stories about `melting bacteria; that can make a bunny go blind! Seems really in himself though

Sometimes reading stuff online can be
I do it myself, hence my ever increasing number of grey hairs !!

Its good news that he is OK within himself :D

Sending vibes for your bun xx :)

My Dominic came into rescue with entropian, which is apparently becoming increasingly common in buns (according to my vet anyways). He had an operation to stop his eyelids rolling inwards and was on eye drops for ages. I thought he might have permanent damage but he's fine now...I reckon they're tougher than we think :D

Thanks both. I'm probably panicking. It's the first time he's been ill and he's such a special bunny. the first one i've had to really give affection back, and so intelligent.
I've got more than a few grey hairs myself....

How is Buns sore eye today ?

Thanks for asking. I'm having major problems with my internet connection so taken a long time to reply. Have had to hijack a neighbours' broadband signal!
I'm not sure his eye is any better or worse. Still looks very sore. I am trying to hang on till Monday to see the vet he saw on friday because I have less faith in the emergency vets unfortunately.
He's still well in himself but after I put the drops in this morning he was scratching at his eye so i'm worried he'll damage it.

My Sooty had the same thing. It cleared up completely with the Fucithalmic.

Thanks for that, gives me some hope :)
How long was it before you saw an improvement? He's only had the ulcer since friday but I'm desperate to see signs of it getting better

He is opening his eye much more now. It's still red and sore looking around the edges. He doesn't seem particularly bothered by it and is running around and grooming his harem as normal. His girls are grooming him more than normal so i'm sure they know something is wrong. He careful ate around the blob of metacam i'd put on a bit of bread, even turning it over it get the the last bit of un-metacamed bread (told you he was clever)

He did 4 massive binkies in a row when I let him out this afternoon so I don't think he can be feeling too bad!

There's been a massive improvement in my bun's eye overnight. You can hardly tell which eye is the poorly one now :D

I think it was about 5 days before there was a significant improvement but, within a week or so, her eye was back to normal :D
