Question about pet insurance

Saucepot

Alpha Buck
Hi all
I wondered if any of you had insurance for unexpected vet fees etc for your bun/s. I have had a quick look online and got a quote of £11.00 per month for one rabbit. Does this sound about right? I wondered if any of you had experience of a claim and is it useful to have pet insurance?

Some people put money aside incase their rabbit gets ill. i think this is a good idea if you have more than one. however if you just have one i would definetly insure.

Thanks! I have a seperate savings account which money is paid into every month to cover vets bills for my 10 guineas as insurance for them is like £800 per year!! But I figured £10 or so per month is acceptable for up to £2000 worth of vets bills in any given year (hopefully not needed). Just wondered if it was a nightmare to claim? also, if anyone has any recommendations for good insurers of rabbits it would be appreciated :p

I only know of two rabbit insurers, petplan and exotic direct.

I use petplan.

It's definately worth it if your rabbits are healthy at the moment. If they have existing issues it might not be worth it as anything linked to the existing condition won't be covered.

Having a savings account can be a good idea, but you need to consider what will happen if your rabbit needs ongoing medical treatment. Your savings might pay for the first operation, but what if he/she needs many operations or will need specialist treatment for the rest of their lives?

It's also important to check the small print as some things may be excluded.

I use Pinnacle.I had to claim quite abit last year for xray &blood tests so am glad B is insured.they also give you a voucher for £25 each year towards vaccinations and they paid up within a week of me sendi ng my voucher in this year. They will give you 2months for free when more than 1bun is insured.

I have 3 of mine insured with exotic direct, one had to have an emergency vet (stasis) on a Sunday and it cost approx 130.00 I had no problems with claiming and it was dealt with quickly, they sent a check minus 45.00 excess.:D

If you have rabbits that have already had a problem like GI Stasis, I believe that you won't be insured for it.

It is worth looking to see if your vet runs any schemes. Mine has just started to run a scheme for £9 per rabbit per month that gives you a free yearly vaccination, 10% off vets bills and money off any long term medication.

Thank you very much for your prompt answers!
I got a quote from petplan and one from exotics direct, similar in price. I am adopting my bun from a rescue and collecting her at the weekend. She is young and very healthy at the moment so it sounds like a good idea to get insurance :)

Honey had been with us for over 2 years and this was the first episode she'd had.
