  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Molar spurs

My bunny is being treated for mites which i am told she has got due to a problem with her teeth. She has just recently started to dribble a bit because she has spikey bits on one of her molars.
I'd really like some advice, how soon should you notice an improvement in the mites? She's being treated with a 3 month course of strong hold and has only had the first month's treatment so far. I hope it worked though as when i put it on she moved and a bit of it went on her fur rather then her skin(which is where it tells you to apply it)?!
Also i've been told I need to take her back in for a dental examination under GA and possibly having her teeth filled. I'm worried as I know how stressful it is for her and it's not good for her to keep having to be put to sleep. I dont want to have to take her back constantly as she hates it, i've stopped giving her pellets and now just give her loads of fresh veg and loads of hay, this i'm told will help her teeth.
If I take her in for the procedure to correct the problem do you think that as i've changed her diet furthur visits for the same problem will be avoided?
Any advice would be great:) Thanks

Certainly correcting her diet will help. But without knowing the extent of her Dental problems its hard to say whether she will need more Dentals and if so how often.
