  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

daisie wants megans babies

our doe had an unexpected litter today ,daisie guinea pig has always been with her through previous litters ,this morning she was sitting by them and is washing them,do you think this will do any harm ,megan is round and about in the house checking then every so often,Daisie has sat with litters before but never actually cleaning them ,I am checking or sat watching and she is definately being very gentle.,do you think she misses the fact she never had babies ,she was a rescue in a sorry state and has been spayed, any advice ,I dont really want to put her separately as sulks and gets distressed ,megan doesn't seem to mind ,

You need to seperate the Guinea Pig from the Doe.

Is the Buck still with the Doe ? If so she will probably be pregnant again as Does are extremely fertile as soon as they have given birth.

we havent got a buck ,we lost him ,and was kept separately, megan is booked for spaying but for next week I expect will need to be delayed whilst feeding the kits,do you know when this can be done is it when they are weened, she has had a litter before ,

She can not be spayed until they are at least 8 weeks old.
I would aslso permanantly seperate the guinea pig from the bunny.
Bunnies are carriers of Bordatella which is fatal to piggies, they also have different dietary an social needs, as well as communicating in different way.
