Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Eye Ulcer in my Dwarf Lop Ear

Bunny Lugs

New Kit
Hi

My 8 year old bunny called Brian, has an eye ulcer. I have been twice to the vet and due again tomorrow. I am giving him metacam in the eveing and fucithalmic eye drops three times a day. The ulcer does not seem to be improving. Has anyone else experience of this. How long does it take to clear. First vet visit was 03 FEb.:(

In an 8yr old dwarf lop I would be very suspicious of tooth involvement. If the ulcer is not clearing up it would be sensible to get some Xrays and a full dental examination carried out. Abscesses/bone changes behind the eye can lead to the eye protruding slightly and not being completely covered with every blink so the middle part can become dry and very prone to ulcers.

One of my rescues who is 11yrs and he as had two eye ulcers and one of my vets is an eye specialist after different eye drops we used insulin as an eye drop and it cleared brilliant:D

 i have a similar prob..but berties is healing it was from a scratch/bif bite:oops: we saw the vet wed evening when he was diagnosed with it..and had to go back today for a check up..the scratch ulcer is healing nicely but all of the sudden hes got one in the centre of his eye with no sign of injury to cause it..but the vet said blood vessels are goiong to it which indicates healing ability. she also said one method is to scrape the dead cells off to help bump start the healing process.

really..insulin?! wow!

ask your vets advice...both methods...hope all goes well.

We should use insuline. One of my rescues who is 11yrs and he as had two eye ulcers and one of my vets is an eye specialist after different eye drops.
