Bunny transporting on a motorbike?

samo.chan

Young Bun
Hi all,

I think I know the answer already, but just wanted to make sure it's as daft as I think it is.

My primary means of transport is by my motorbike, which I use around London. Now, there may be times I need to quickly transport my buns to the pet hospital (in Victoria, I'm in E. London), as I had to for my previous buns.

Would it be utterly daft to bike them across town? I know buns are delicate and fragile thing, and I'm guess the roar of my bike, plus the other traffic might be too much for their bunbun hearts.

In the off chance it's possible (and necessary), should I box them in darkness, so they can't see out, or let them see their surroundings?

[FYI, last time I called a cab, so don't think this is a question in hind-sight :)]

Yup, the sound would probably send them into shock/heart attack.
My best mate has a Harley and when he pulls up on the drive the indoor buns would always used to freeze, ears dead up and alert, eyes wide on the verge of popping out, or would hide in a box.

Yep, I would say probably not a good idea. There's also the safety factor, if you an accident, even a minor bump, there isn't much protection for a bunny in a box. Carriers just aren't designed to take the impact and would shatter.

There are companies that specialise in animal taxi's, not sure how cost/convenience compares to just getting a taxi but your vet might know if there is a local company.

I share your pain. Am also in E. London:wave: and getting anywhere with the rascals is impossible. Mine are chauffeur-driven bunnies - they get taxis everywhere!

The only pet hospital I know of is in Victoria, but thankfully I live right next to the local vet [best friends IOD].

I'm trying to find a cheaper, faster alternative to getting to the hospital in the future, as the vet isn't always open, and doesn't usually accept A&E :(

Where abouts in East London are you? would the Beaumont's Animal Hospital in Camden be a bit nearer/cheaper to get to?

Hmm, it's about the same isn't it? I'm near Canary Wharf, so the distance to both Victoria and Camden is about the same. I will look it up though, you can never have enough emergency numbers!

Der.... Sorry, just checked their leaflet and their emergency service is linked to Elizabeth St SW1, that's Victoria, isn't it?

For normal vet things, I can just walk to my local vet, but I want to think about preparing for the future, because 2 of my previous buns needed A&E, and had to taxi there

I had a bunny that boarded with me and his owners use to bring him on a moped:roll: bunny was always fine when arrived:)

My boyfriend and I have motorbikes and I wouldn't dream of taking the bunnies on them! Far too noisey and dangerous for them.

you mean like at 3am ?

I mean like Marco breaking his leg in the middle of the night :( I took him to the hospital first thing in the morning, but he died there :(.

I want to think I can be better prepared for transport next time, somehow, but I only have a motobike as personal means of transport, or call a cab and wait for them to come, then go, etc. Obviously in emergency circumstances, tube isn't the quickest way from A to B.
