New Kit
Hello,
My precious special bun bun passed away Tuesday and I am hoping someone can give me some answers as to why....
Last week Thursday he stopped eating and I suspected he had spurs (he had had them before). Because we couldn't get to the vat (we were snowed in) I started syringe feeding him with crushed pellets mixed with warm water. He was quite happy taking this. On Saturday, I finally got the car off the driveway and got bun bun to the vet. He went to surgery on Saturday for the spurs and stayed at the vet over the weekend. I collected him Monday evening and brought him home.
He was a house bunny and as soon as he was out his carrycase, he headed for his tunnel (vacuum cleaner box) and really did not want to socialise with us. We left him alone thinking his mouth was just sore. The vet had said to not syringe feed him as he had to start eating naturally asap. We did give him some cuddles and loves but he really just wanted to be left alone.
When I came down in the morning, he didn't make a fuss trying to get out his cage and when I went to open his cage for him, he just lay there all limp. His little head was shaking like Parkinsons and I stroked him and talked to him. When he didn't react, I called the vet straight away to bring him down, but he died within an hour.
The vet said he was probably stressed and that this had upset the bacteria in his caecum. I don't understand why stress would do this? On the Monday night he was hunching his back like he was in pain - I think he was hurt at the vet's. I did question the vet but no-one admitted anything.
Could I have done anything different? I am really doubting myself as a bun-mum. We had 3 fantastic years with bun bun and he should not have died so young.
Any suggestions/ideas would be welcome.
Thank you
Lyndsey
