Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

lumps at base of nails

my rabbit matt has small lumps at the base of two of his nails. he started off with one and that was a torn nail bed which used to bleed and then heeled. i took him to the vets the other day and when she checked to see how the nail was doing we noticed that the nail next to it now had a lump aswell. it's like a raised lump, quite red around the lump.

we don't know why because the nails themselves are fine, it's like a lump at the base of the nail but on the foot skin. does that make sense? :?

the vet said it was probably nothing to worry about as the nails are fine and the lumps aren't infected or anything but i can't help worrying and i can't find any information about what the lumps could be in that particular place and i want to know!

has anyone else ever seen this before in their rabbits?

I have a couple of Buns with warts on their nail base.
Cant say for certain thats what your Bun has, but as your Vet has seen them and they are not painful or infected I would not worry. Just keep an eye on them. If they start to go crusty or bleed then pop back to the Vets :)

One of my buns lost a nail in the summer time, and it hasn't really grown back properly - it looks like a sort of lump - all bumpy - I guess it's a wee bit like if we lost a finger nail and the nail-bed was damaged then it wouldn't grow back properly? Don't know if this sounds like your bun?

what colour are warts usually on rabbits? matts lumps are raised and pinky red colour.
do you have a picture of your rabbits lumpy nail bed i could compare matts to?
he's fine and everything, i just want to know what they are! i'm obsessive when it comes to bisc and matt and i can't stand not knowing! :)
