Peanut Butter has a problem...

XMissySJx

Wise Old Thumper
At his checkup today the vet said his hock is actually healing really well...

but he has fluid build up inside the hock. She said shes stumped on what to do, because his hock has cleared up nicely, but she said generally once you get fluid inside a hock you cant really get rid of it.

She said her main worry now is that its going to get very painful for him, she said she wouldnt even suggested amputating the leg because then he will probably still get fluid.

she wants to refer him to a specialist in wickford, but hes going back friday and she will decide then.

She said she had seen caes much worse, so my mum was like 'phew' but then she said all those had resulted in PTS because of the level of pain and discomfort. she said its not that bad now, but because of where it is its so hard to clear it so it may just get worse.

i cant believe it. i spotted it so early, this isnt fair :(

im so worried, my poor boy its not fair.

and i hate the fact i cant get home either :( i blimming have a week from monday 2nd til sunday and i havent got enough money to get home to even see him

:(

I'm so sorry. I hope Molly doesn't get that bad. That's why I'm trying to sort it now while it's a little red, than let it be.

well, to be honest it didnt make a difference with peanut. he had cream as soon as it was sore. hes hock is bad due to bad ligaments, so no ammount of cream could fix it.

he had sooo much cream for months, but bcus it was ligaments causing the sore hock it didnt change anything :(

awwwwww poor peanut :cry::cry::cry::cry:

i hope they find a way to make him better xxxxx

had a long chat with my mum this morning, and the vet has said she doesnt think hind leg amputation will do him much good because it will just put so much pressure on his other hock, and he will just become misrable and in pain.

The outlook really isnt good for my special boy. I actually think im going to have to say goodbye to him.

I dont even know how im supposed to do that.

i dont think you should give up yet. why is leg amputation a bad idea? would this not resolve the issue? i wonder if it may be a case of with dressings for life he would be ok? and some pain relief such as metacam..... pm jacks jane i think christobel(her vet in twickenham) may have some goood advice?! x

I have PM'ed Jane...and unfortnatly she isnt very optimistic for his outcome either.

Basically...he had dodgy ligaments, and they 'slip' which cause his feet to drag ont he ground causing his sore hocks. So by amputation, he would be putting his whole weight on one hock, and it wouldjust take a matter o time because he got an abcess in that one, and then he would be alot of pain.

The specialist we are going to see may have a better prognosis. but the vet we see now is very reluctant about hind leg amputation because of what weve found out about his leg.

oh i see its much more complicated than normal sore hocks.. poor pb..what about letting him live on a softer bedding ... gulp as a house rabbit on a large area of douvet or something? im all out of ideas but am praying for him and crossing everything i can xxxx

well practically...he cant live as a house bunny. BUT if it was..live as a house bunny or suffer outside, my mum would find a way.

she did mention trying just keeping him on dressing which raise his hocks,so he walks different, but the problem is every morning mum comes downstairs and hes ripped it to shreds. So he hates it, and if he hates it that much i dont want him to be pulling at his leg for the rest of his life, that just seems cruel.

I just hope on friday we get a better idea of whats going on and what options are available.

:(
