  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Nosodes

BunMom

Has anyone ever used nosodes instead of vaccines for their dogs/cats/bunnies? I have issues with vaccines but use them due to the scare factor. I'm scared to try them in case they don't work even though it seems like it would be a better option.

I think an old member on here used homeopathic vaccines on her bunnies and they later went on to catch, and die from, VHD :cry:.

I wouldn't risk it. It's not like either are similar to flu in humans (i.e. you get it, you're pretty ill but chances are you'll get better). They are the equivalent of ebola & in VHD it is the bunny version of ebola. Both Mixi & VHD mount such an attack on the body that there is no hope of surviving without vaccination, therefore homeopathic remedies would probably have about as much effect as wishful thinking.

A good friend of mine, now deceased   used nosodes.
She had a VHD outbreak and lost several Rabbits

IMO using nosodes is the same as not vaccinationg

Okay...No nosodes for us:shock: I'm glad I asked on here first, you guys are great!:) I had never heard any downside to using them but I wasn't looking in the right places apparently. I really appreciate the information, and so do my critters! It is hard to make decisions sometimes when you want what is best for your fur kids.
