Molly's treatment

LionheadLuver

Warren Veteran
Hiya

Took her to the Medivet Watford, with the vet who is a rabbit specialist. I have to say, I was impressed. He asked me loads of questions about how I care for them. He gave her an antibiotic to fight any secondary infection and anti-immflamatory to bring down the swelling. We also have to give her baytril (for 10 days) and metacam (for 5 days). This should get rid of it. And clean it with salty water every day too. And also increase the hay on the floor to soften the flooring for her feet. I hope this solves it. Does this sound right? Please say yes, as it cost me £90!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds about right. is she insured?

just keep an eye out and if starts going white under the skin then take her straight back as peanuts was like this and it was an abcess!

hope she is feeling okay xx

She's not insured, no. But we will and can pay for any treatment. It's just very red at the mo. She tried to take a leap over my shoulder!!! I was so scared. only just caught her!!!

oh i know you can! wasnt saying you cant, just wondered because with peanuts hock its been hell andback lol!

bless her. i found old duvets n stuff really helped peanut, so keep an eye out in a charity shop or something :)

He said put some foam down in the hutch and hay on top. I don't know where i could get it? I think they'll eat duvets, as they chew vetbed.

I reckon starw might be better than hay because it doesn't absorb water and the water soaks straight through...sort of like a natural vet bed :D

Medivet in Watford are supposed to be very good :D

For foam - depends on how big your run is, but in B&Q the other day i saw these foam blocks, about 2 inches thick, that are shaped like giant jigsaw pieces. If you bought some of them and fitted them together, so that the edges were outside the run where the bunnies cant get to them, that might work quite well? i think they were less that £10 per pack of 4 and were quite big.
looked a bit like this but thicker http://www.tilegirl.com/paviplay.htm
