Fuzzy needs another GA, He's Ok, but the results aren't good

Hugo's There

Wise Old Thumper
I can't believe we are having to put another bunny through a GA since loosing Austin during his on Tuesday. It is such a stressful time at the moment. To make matters worse Fuzzy only had a GA 2 weeks ago, we are really worried about him :(

When we took him on in December we thought his only problems was his terribly matted coat and resulting sore skin, but he seems to keep having one problem after another.

He never ate much to start with but his diet and living conditions changed drastically here so put it down to that to start with. He was health checked and myxi vaccd just before Christmas and even though he had become aggressive no physical cause could be found.

His behaviour got worse, and between Christmas and New Year it was discovered he had spurs growing into his tongue right at the back. So he had a dental, and nothing else was found.

Again his behaviour didn't improve and on Thursday just as I got back from the vet from collecting Fidget I found he couldn't eat at all. Food was just falling from his mouth :( I felt along his jaw bone and his roots feel terrible. All I can get him to eat is recovery food and very watered down pellets, even on the highest dose of metacam.

He went ot the vets Saturday, and his tongue has healed fine so he is now booked in for dental x-rays on wednesday. He has even lost weight since his dental rather than gaining

The thing is I don't know what we are going to do once we have the results. His teeth all look fine in his mouth so nothing can be done there. there are no signs of abscess to be treated and he is on the highest dose of pain relief already :?

I wish I could do more for Fuzzy to make him comfortable, he has been through so much pain and upheveal in his little life.

We are so worried about putting a bunny through another GA especially when he has lost weight and about Fuzzys future :(

What a time you are having :(

I hope he pulls through and do ok.

Thinking of you and here if you need a vent/rant/chat or anything (and I'm about all day tomorrow if you need any of that either).

Thank you. Unfortunately he isn't being x-rayed until Wednesday they were booked up until then . I may decide to make a fuss in the morning to see what I can get sorted. The only vet on over the weekend is not very rabbit friendly and I avoid her if I possibly can.

I just can't believe it, everytime we take a bunny on we think it has one problem but it always turns out to have 1 or 2 more that we never expected, it is quite heartbreaking :(

Fuzzy is only 18 months old, he seems too young to have such bad root problems :?

Sorry, I obviously created in my head he was going in tomorrow, lol, sorry, I think I just assumed.

But I am around all day on Wednesday too :D Just poke me if you want a chat or anything.

I'll get all my good thinking thoughts in order for then :)

Thank you, that is so kind.

If last Thursday, when fidget had his GA, is anything to go by, I will spend half the day in tears and the other half pacing around doing nothing

Bless your heart. GAs are horrendous at the best of times, let alone on a rabbit with his past (I don't know the whole lot, but even his recent past adds stress) and then with your recent experiences with GA that adds even more.

MY best advice is to try and distract yourself as much as possible (although granted, that is easier said than done).

We'll be here for you if you need us :)

Oh gosh poor Fuzzy, it's a good thing you did decide to take him on isn't it, there's obviously a reason these special bunnies find their way to you even if they seem ok on arrival. I do hope the little chap is ok xxx

Dropped Fuzzy off for his x-ray this morning.

He ate his mush so well on Sunday and Monday and was binkying about really happily :) But yesterday he hardly ate anything and looked really depressed.

They are definately keeping him in over night as they want to assess how much he is eating and pooing.

I really hope my little soft fluff ball is going to be ok :(

He made it through the GA ok :D:D:D:D

But the news from the x-rays is not very promising.

As we suspected the problems are his roots. The lower ones are in a terrible state, and the vets feels there is nothing more we can do for him in the way of treatment.:cry:

If they tried to remove any teeth his jaw would disintigrate. Jen even wiggled every single tooth in turn but they are all completely solid. Even his lower incisor roots are in a bad way. I haven't seen the x-ray myself yet but hopefully will in the morning so can get a better idea of what we are dealing with.

All we can do is try to keep him comfortable on pain relief and carry on with the mushy food. the problem is I already have him on the highest dose of metacam just to get him to eat anything, so we have nowhere to go from here.

Jen did suggest refering him to a specialist, but we are not sure what else they could suggest. If anyone has any ideas then please let me know.

So at the moment, Fuzzy will be home in the morning. He may have weeks, months or years ahead we just don't know. Either way we will give him lots of love and spoil him rotten :)

If anyone has any recipies for different mushy food that Fuzzy might like I would love to hear them.

So far we have tried baby food and porridge which he hates and banana upset his tummy.
