I would just put heaps of old towels and fleeces down if you have them. Put newspaper underneath if you can.

Have the vets advised him to stay inside and restrict his movement? I doubt they'll want him putting too much pressure on it

Oh and have you got a snuggle safe? Might like that for after the GA.
