Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Loss of appetite

Does baytril and panacur cause loss of appetite. Wesley is eating but hardly the amount he would normally eat. I'm considering taking him back to the vet. I have been giving him some herbs and putting probiotics in his water.

Baytril actually has a positive effekt on the gut, so that should be ok. Never noticed a less appatite when I gave panacur. But...some rabbits react bad to fenbendazole...is this the first time he takes this?

One of my bunnies stops eating when they are on oral baytril. I give her zantc at the same time and that normally solves the problem :D

Baytril can cause loss of appetite, often on day 4-5 of treatment.
Care needs to be taken if you give Ranitidine/Cimetidine to a Bun on abx as both Ranitidine and Cimetidine change the acidity of the guts (making them more alkaline) This increases the risk of gut dysbiosis.

A probiotic like Fibreplex would be good to give Wesley. Are his poos looking normal and is he on any other medication such as Metacam?

His poos are slightly smaller and there are not so many. I have been giving him Avipro probiotics. He's not on any other medication. He had an antiflamatory and antibiotic injection when he first went to the vets.

Thanks I've just ordered some fibreplex.

When was he last examined by the Vet?
The small poos indicate reduced gut motility which needs prompt attention. He may need additional treatment, particularly more pain relief/anti-inflammatories. So I would give the Vet a call and see if he/she thinks Honey needs to be seen again today.

Good Luck

xx

Thanks Jane. He was last seen on Wednesday night. He has definitely improved overnight and has eaten and drinken a lot more and his poos are much bigger and more normal. I will keep a close eye on him and give the vet another call.
