  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help please- really worried..

Pipin and Bramley both got neutered today, and since she's came home, Pipin hasn't touched anything to eat.. I've offered her all of her favourate foods but she's not having any of it..

HELP?

Sorry for double posting this here & in chat..

Is she indoors? She needs to be.
It is not unusual for a Doe to refuse food for several hours after a spay.
Offer her a drink of cooled boiled water from a bowl. You often find the Doe will drink before she eats.
Has she poo'd at all ?
Just let her rest, make sure she is warm and that she has hay and her favorite food available. Gratted Carrot often tempts a Bun to eat.
She should start to eat and poo later tonight.

She is indoors. She's in a crate upstairs with me.. :) She has her favourate food to eat (wheatabix ) and hay. She has pooed but it was small, sticky and black, though not a ceacal.. She has drunk too.

Thats all sounding good :)
The fact that she has poo'd means her guts are working. She probably feels sore and groggy and that will stop her wanting to eat. The water she is drinking will help her Kidney's flush the remains of the GA out of her system and when she feels brighter she should start to nibble at some food.

If she is still not eating first thing in the morning (I suspect she will be though) give your Vet a call and request some more pain relief for her. You will only need to start syringe feeding if she does not eat overnight.

She has to go back first thing tomorrow anyway. I do think she's feeling quite sore, as she keeps growling at Bramley and me.. So I'm going to have to keep them seperated tonight I think..

If you seperate them do try to keep them next to each other. It can be tricky to get Buns back together again if you seperate them.

has she had pain relief? Both Sophie and Autumn didn't eat properly for a full 24 hours (they did nibble). Water in a bowl was the beginning for them coming round fully, although that started with me dripping water out of a syringe, (not syringing it into her, but dribbling it out of the syringe and Autumn drinking it)

She had pain releif at the vets today.. She seems brighter then she did a couple of hours ago, but she's still not really happy.

she has been through a major op, I don't think rabbits do too bad at bouncing back considering. I know it doesn't help, but she will recover pretty speedily.

my girls didnt eat until the next morning and then only spring greens and dandilions they prefered drinking from a bowl.. any poos are good was she given a gut stimulant? she may need more pain relife tommorrow too xx

when my bun was sprayed, it took Goofball 1 to 2 days to get back to regular diet. During that time, she only eat treats and veggies.

You need to tempt your bun w/ any of her favorite greens, fruits and treats. Don't expect her to eat hay or even pellet

She's been to the vets this morning and has been given a gut stimulant and some more pain relief. She's drank loads of water since we came back from the vets, so hopefully this is a good sign.

Glad to hear she is drinking well, which is really important to keep her hydrated. Just keep on with herbs, small amounts of fresh leafy veg to tempt her.

Is there any chance that the two buns can be put back together as ARC have found from our own experience that buns who had partners immediatly prior to their surgery recover quicker from their operations if they are kept together. If there is chasing, humping keep them next to each other.

Your bun who is taking more time to recover will more than likely have different looking poos to Bramleys so it is usually relatively easy to keep an eye on her output whilst giving her the normal company she was used to.
