Having VHD & Myxi vac at the same time

They should not be given at the same time as its to much for a bunnies system to have and over load of vacccinations at the same time

Who told you that Katie ?

I know the Exotics Specialist in Richmond does them at the same time :?

But every other Vet I know and all the Vaccine data says there should be 14 days between them

Thats what i thought but i tried a different vets today for vhd jab and he said they are supposed to have both together i was like  i have never heard that before, needless to say i won't be going back there.

One of the vets near me has a special offer on vaccinations at the moment with them both at either £11 or £12 each.

It is a vet practice I used about 16 years ago when I had a cat. I know a few people who have had the experience of going there in the past couple of years and

Have a look at the manufacturer's datasheet for the myxomatosis vaccine here http://www.noahcompendium.co.uk/intervet_schering-plough/nobivac_myxo/-29532.html

Just over half way down it says "No information is available on the safety and efficacy of the concurrent use of Nobivac Myxo with any other. It is therefore recommended that no other vaccines should be administered within 14 days before or after vaccination with Nobivac Myxo."

In other words, because no testing has been done to establish whether the vaccines (a) work and/or (b) are safe to be given together, it is recommended that they are given 14 days apart. Even if this vet has never had a problem with it being done like this, what's to say that the rabbits are actually getting immunity from either :?

all vet schools teach that they should be 2 weeks apart, for the reasons others have said. though there is some debate over having one or the other first and either at the same time as a dental or neutering?

my vets gets you to pay for them together(as its chepaer... £16.50 each or 22 for both) and tehn they give them 2-3weeks apart. if you overload the immune system it can be dangerous

My vet does the special price if you pay for both together, but they are done 2 weeks apart..it's just that you pay for the 2nd one in advance.

lol do we have the same vet?!! lol xx

Spoke to my bunny savvy vet tonight and she got a text book out and showed me where it said no other vac within 14 days  there are some awful practices out there :(

Interesting - I've always avoided vaccinations within 2 weeks of an operation so that the buns body can spend its energy on gaining immunity rather than repairing itself after an op, personally I think there's a risk that the vaccines won't work if done too close to any surgery. What's the current thinking that you're hearing?

Two weeks apart...one of the jabs goes half in the ear and the rest into the skin.i pay £17 for both of them.
