I wouldn't say there is an upper age limit for spaying as long as the rabbit is healthy 
It is very difficult to tell if a rabbit has been spayed. There is not much of a scar left when they heal up so the only way to tell without operating would be to have an ultrasound. Even then you might not get a definate answer.

Also say your rabbit sprays becuase he is not neutered if you leave it too long the spraying (or anything else like that) then it will become a habit and even after the neuter they will still spray
