  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Horrible wee :(

My other half finally gave in to me getting a 5th bun.

So I got a little lionhead, which I named Bruno.

When he first came to us he wouldnt eat or drink and eventually I got him drinking out of a bowl, but I cant get him to use his bottle.. (he is indoors).

He came out today for a run, and weed a little on the carpet, when I went to wipe it up, i noticed it was like a paste..

Is this because he isnt drinking much? Or something more serious :(

Its a very dark yellow and thick. x

lol now that would take alot of convincing with ant :D haha

Were going to try and bond him in as a trio, but if not then you know where I will come lol ;)

We rescued poor little Bruno from his horrible brother, which a mate thought it was playing :censored:

actually it's not that normal.....It's called sludgy bladder and it means that he's either not drinking enough or he's eating too much calcium. Buns absorb all the calcium that they eat into their system and any that they don't need is filtered by the kidneys. Sludgy bladder can lead to kidney stones and other problems. His we should be liquid but which some faint streaks of calcium or a little cloudy......definately not like toothpaste. To sort it out:

(1) Make sure he's drinking as much as he needs to. If he's only drink from a bowl then let him have it. Change the water twice a day. putting something tasty in the water like a touch of apple or cranberry juice can bump up intake. Some people use the liquid that their veggies have cooked in (as long as you haven't used salt).

(2) Reduce his high calcium foods. These are:

Alfafa - Shouldn't have this at all
Most cabbage & spring greens - substitute for savoy
Spinach & kale
Lots of the chinese greens
parsley & carrot tops
water cress & mint
Rabbit pellets - Try and cut these down or switch to a lower caclium brand like oxbow t pellets.

Bump up intead his intake of mangetout, raddish, rocket, very dark lettuce, sprouts, cauliflower, carrots, peppers, tomaotes, most fruits. Brocolli & celery are middle of the range.
