Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Red/swollen eye

New Kit
Hi all,

My rabbit is a Dutch/Dwarf, and he'll be turning about 5 this coming January. Since the past year or so, he's developed a dental disease where he has runny eyes, and has to go to the vet to have his teeth trimmed every 2-3 months.

He actually just came back from the vet this past Sunday. Usually, when his appetite starts to decrease, I take him to the vet. However, this time around, it's still taking awhile for him to eat his normal amount. In addition, his right eye is a bit red. I tried taking a picture of it, but it's kind of difficult. You might be able to see the red tinge towards the bottom, as well as the dark pinkish outline of his eye (I swear it used to be more pale, and brown).

I'm going to wait and see if it warrants a visit to the vet. I'm hoping it'll go away within a few days. Have any of your rabbits experienced this problem? He's fine otherwise, it's just that one eye that makes me worried!

Thanks in advance!

You can use some natural tear drop, it doesn't hurt and perfectly safe for a bun. At least it will let him feel more comfy
