Hugo's There

Wise Old Thumper
We have been to collect a rabbit today that our vet approached us about taking as the owners weren't coping.

They are lovely people but Fuzzy is a long haired bunny and they were really struggling to cope with his coat. Today was the first time I had seen him and OMG he is in such a mess. They have tried so hard with him and clearly love him to pieces and he is such a friendly bunny, but where to start on him :( His face is so matted he cannot see, he can't move his back legs properly and he even has matts all round his genitals
He is unable to keep himself clean underneath so they have been showering him but with so many matts he is impossible to dry so his skin looks really sore too.

Fuzzy was an outdoor bun with free range of the garden, who loved digging and sitting in the rain. All the things bunnies love to do, but which he can't do with the coat he has. He will be an indoor bunny for now until we can work out what is best for him.

It just makes me ask the question again Why do people breed bunnies like this? Just because they have "cute" fluffy coats doesn't mean there isn't still a proper rabbit inside them. It makes me so angry, Fuzzy can no longer have the life he loves with a family who love him because some idiot bred him like this :( Also we are his 4th home in his short 18 month life.

Poor Fuzzy... At least he is safe now that he's with you, and he will finally get the care that he needs.... Any pics of the little boy?

i dont know.. im still stuggling to understand why we have lops... yes alvin is gorgeous but how much fun is it to have your ears dragging on a cold wet floor when its raining or getting tickled by hay as you settle down to eat.. not to mention the some degree of deafness he suffers from...... why do we feel the need to meddle with an animal that was already perfect

i hope you manage to help this little one live a lovely happy life from now on xxxx

Just charging the camera up ;)

we did think that we would take him in, sort him out and rehome him as we didn't think he really qualified for our sanctuary but having seen him and knowing that we are his 4th home he will definately be staying :)

I felt sorry for his family, they really did try their hardest but had no idea what they were taking on. They had him for 9 months and then did the right thing and asked the vets for help. They were so worried that he would have to be PTS. I felt so bad walking out of their house with Fuzzy, they had a little girl who kept asking where Fuzzy was going :(
At least they are local so can visit when ever they like.

Here are some piccys of the little boy. He is trying desperately hard to wash himself at the moment and he smells terrible :(

Meet Fuzzy

His eyes are under layers of mattered fur, the pic doesn't really show up how deeply hidden they are

This is him underneath, his skin is much redder than it shows up in the piccy

And this is his back :(

  Poor little Fuzzy :(

So glad hes with you now Liz and on the road to recovery :) Sending him lots of... detangling vibes :?

He'll turn out to be a gorgeous bunny  xXx

Didn't the vet think shaving his heavily matted areas would be a good idea? Would be easier than trying to sort out that mess, poor bun :?

Poor little man. It looks like parts of him at least will need to be shaved, almost, to let air get to his skin so it can start to heal. Do keep us posted! :D

Apparently they shaved him quite recently  I'm have a vet visiting to do vaccs on Wednesday so will discuss it with her then:)

He's a proper sweetie. Hope he's feeling tip top very soon. I am sure that he knows that he's 'come home' now he's with you guys.

Please give him a nose snog from us lot over here.

He looks like one of those sheep
Poor little guy though :(
Glad he's with you
Toffee has a bull of fur for a head so we cut his face so he can see :) Toffee is some kind of cross with a *thinks* French Angora and he never gets matted. One groom a week... Ghostie does the rest

Heyyyy how come he gets blue vetbed and Eddie had to have pink

Poor little love, I bet he'll feel much better once all that has been sorted - bet you're glad you said 'yes' to him now aren't you!

bless him, thats an awful state for him to be in:cry:.

Wr adopting a bunny similar to your chap, she was brought into a rescuse in an matted mess. The lady at the rescue has done wonders cutting out the matts and brushing her:love:.

When we pick her up on friday, she will be coming to her forever home with us that will be her 5th home and shes not even a yr old.

Eddie can have blue tomorrow, we don't want him getting a complex:lol::lol:

I have managed to remove a lot of fur already, he was such a good boy. His eyes are red raw and there is lots of discharge. The matt underneth him went across genitals, back legs and tummy so every time he walked it pulled at his man bits:( I've managed to remove it from around his bits and some of his tummy so hopefully he will be more comfy now :)

I knew the year I spent working in a dog grooming parlour 20 years ago would come in handy one day

Oh bless him, he is SUCH a sweetheart.  Good luck with sorting his coat out, Liz......he is a lucky boy to have found himself with you. :D

Both Jessica and Snowy were in quite a bad way when they came to us, we got the worst bits shaved. When the knots are so close to the skin we found it easier to clip it off and start anew. We also found washing the worst thing to do as it just tends to clump the hair, until it becomes like felt. Jessica is now very good and enjoys her groom, but Snowy is still a bit akward. We also trim off the hair from bits that will tend to get matted, like the bottom, feet, chin and arm pits.
Well done for taking him on, it always makes me angry when I see these kinds of rabbits for sale as they are just so high maintenance and are really a specialist pet.
