  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Please help - Q regarding rabbit poo.

Instead of the normal hard, round droppings, today I have noticed Frodo's droppings are very wet and dark and in one big poo. They only thing different he had yesterday was a bit of carrot. Although I am slowly introducing him to pellet food inplace of mix. Anyone got any suggestions and/or advice?.

could it be an uneaten caceaotroph? if not tehn i would ensure he gets lots of extra hay xx

what pellets are you changing him over to? it could also be them thats upsetting his tummy but would also do what bunlover said and give him extra hay and leave out the veg.

I changed my bunnies over to Excel pellets but they didn't agree with my little man and he started producing lots of cecotrophs the dark sticky smelly ones! I posted on here and was told that Excel pellets dont agree with some rabbits. I was advised to swap to Science Selective and hey presto it worked. Like a lot of people I only feed a small portion as well, about 2ozs a day.
